Spiritual Care Workshop - Haven of Hope Hosptial March 2004 Haven of Hope Hospital Spiritual Care Lecture American Baptist's support various agencies in Hong Kong. Haven of Hope Hospital is one such agency. This hospital began as a Tuberculosis Sanitorium among refugees from China. Sister Annie Skau was a missionary and nurse from Norway who followed God's call to serve in Hong Kong in the 1950's. Her vision and hard work gave Haven of Hope its beginning. Over the years the hospital has served many different groups of people. Now it primarily serves elderly patients in a new residential area called Tseung Kwan O. Initially American Baptist's assisted the work by providing funds for the hospital. Now we continue to support the hospital by providing scholarships for the staff to attend various conferences and training seminars. Our financial support is small compared to the hospital's current operating budget but we do want to continue to support and encourage the people who serve there. This is not an ordinary hospital. The senior management staff and Board of Directors are Christians committed to sharing God's love through quality healthcare and service beyond what is required. Recently I attended a seminar arranged by the hospital for its board members and staff. Two people with experience in Christian Healthcare in the UK were invited to share. They encouraged and challenged us to continue to seek God's guidance through prayer and faithfully trust God in the development of new services or ways to offer care to God's children. In keeping with this commitment, the hospital recently adopted a new mission statement. "Through a ministry of holistic care, we strive to share the Gospel and develop a Christian community. In the love of Christ, we deliver our service in a caring, professional and progressive spirit so that the lives of those serving and being served are mutually enriched." It is exciting to see how God is calling and working in the midst of this agency. Please continue to pray for them.
