Step Funds in Action...

American Baptistís have been involved in Social Service work in Hong Kong since the 1950ís.  Over the years we have provided a variety of services.  Initially we helped the large refugee population with basic necessities of food and clothing.  Today our social services are focused primarily on children and youth.  We provide two schools with a social worker.  Recently the social worker told me about a student. 

This student's parents experienced a crisis.  Due to the parent's involvement in their difficulty they forgot or abandoned this student.  The student was left alone at home.  The student did not have anything to eat and did not have any money for transportation to and from school.  Our social worker decided we should do something.  We provided some money for some meals and transportation.  Eventually the parents handled their crisis and returned home. 

Your STEP funds were used to help this student in need.  Our social workers are constantly listening and looking for young people facing extraordinary needs.  We have set up an emergency fund with STEP funds they can use for students in special need.

In a place like Hong Kong it is difficult to imagine people experience such basic needs sometimes.  Unfortunately students are the most vulnerable even in affluent places.  Keep those STEP Funds coming!!
